Chennai: At its massive rally here on December 11, Indian Union Muslim League presented Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK leader Dr Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi with the “The Man of Harmony Award”. The CM, in his turn, responded positively on two of 15 IUML resolutions – Urdu and AMU off-campus centre.
The conference held at Railway Grounds at Tambaram, a suburb of Chennai, featured various state ministers and IUML national and state leaders.
Prof. K. M. Kader Mohideen, Ex-MP and National General Secretary and the State President of IUML presided over the conference which was inaugurated by Abdul Rahman, party MP from Vellore and convener of the conference. The welcome speech was made by K. A. M. Aboobacker, General Secretary, IUML Tamil Nadu while inaugural address was delivered by Syed Hyder Ali Shihab Thangal, President, IUML Kerala. On the occasion, a book on IUML Vision 2020 was released by E. Ahamed, National President, IUML, and Minister of State for Railways followed by his keynote address.
All the IUML leaders lavishly exalted and extolled the Chief Minister as a hero and wished him to remain in power for 40 years with good hope the minority communities including Muslims will be benefited and taken care with all measures.
Recalling the legacy of Qaid-e-Millat Mohammed Ismail Sahib, all the speakers spoke on the partnership established between the two parties.
It was emphasized that there was no reversal of policies, attitudes or principles between the two parties. The IUML leaders said the party would extend relentless support to DMK. Professor Khader Mohideen said, 11,000 Mohalla jama’ath members would propagate the welfare schemes of the ruling party from January 2011 to every nook and corner
of the State.
In his reply to the accolades showered, Mr. Karunanidhi said that as a student of eleventh standard, in a conference of Muslim League, in Thiruvaroor, near his home town, it was he as cadre who paraded the streets holding green flag with crescent embedded.He also recalled how he broke his alliance once with BJP, since the saffron party showed its non secular colours with respect to Babri Masjid.
Among 15 resolutions adopted at the conference, the DMK chief Mr.Karunanidhi responded to “Samacheer Kalvi” whereby Urdu assumed a non examination language. He promised considering introduction of a system whereby the minorities could learn four subjects in their mother tongue. The Chief Minister also announced the State government would develop a commisionerate for refugees’ rehabilitation for overseas Tamils. A welfare board will be formed for Tamils working abroad.
Mr. Karunanidhi showed keen interest in AMU off-campus centre and said he would recommend the Centre for a branch of Aligarh Muslim University in the state.
