Kolkata : Maoists shot dead a Communist party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) supporter in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district Monday on charges of being a police spy, an official said.
Kali Charan Mahato, an active member of the CPI-M-affiliated All Bengal Primary Teachers Association, was dragged out of his house Sunday night and shot dead, Jhargram Superintendent of Police Praveen Tripathi said.
Maoist posters claiming responsibility were found in the area, Tripathi said. The posters claimed that he was given capital punishment for acting as “a police informer”.
Kali Charan’s body was recovered Monday morning.
