‘South Asia key to future medical innovation’

New Delhi : South Asian countries are the key to medical innovation in the times to come, experts said at a regional conference that concluded here Monday.

Nearly 7,000 surgeons from all over the country and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) member nations took part in the Dec 15-20 Association of Surgeons of India Conference held at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

“The climate of debate, discussion, live telecast of basic and advanced surgeries that took place at the surgeons’ meet this year clearly pave the way for the tremendous potential that south Asian nations hold in them for medical innovation,” said N.K. Pandey, president of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI).

“Surgery requires innovation constantly, and such meets will go a long way in advancing the cause of surgery, highlighting emerging trends and enabling the exchange of ideas,” Pandey added.

ASI honorary secretary R.K. Karwasra said: “We need techniques that are accurate, hassle-free and convenient to use.”
