Mumbai : A benchmark index of the Indian equities market was witnessing choppy session with positive bias Wednesday, due to lack of buying activities ahead of holiday season.
The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 20,118.82 points, up 58.50 points from the previous close of 20,060.32 points, was trading almost flat in the afternoon sesson.
At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was holding just above 6,000 points mark.
Of the 30 stocks that constitute Sensex, 16 were in the positive while 14 in the red.
The overall market breadth was also positive with three stocks gaining for every one stock declining.
Amongst the sectoral indices the BSE midcap was up 0.13 percent and the smallcap index was ruling 0.34 percent higher in the afternoon session.
