Delhi to probe deaths in observation home

New Delhi: The Delhi government Wednesday formed a five-member committee to investigate the deaths of some 20 mentally challenged inmates in a state-run observation home over the past two months.

“The committee will look into reasons for the deaths in Asha Kiran Complex in Rohini in December and January,” said Delhi Social Welfare Minister Mangat Ram Singhal.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Jan 12 issued notice to Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta, seeking a detailed report into the causes of the deaths.
