New Delhi : Judges of the Delhi High Court Friday declared their assets, following in the footsteps of their Supreme Court counterparts. Information of their assets has been posted on the court’s official website.
According to the declaration, Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah’s wife has more savings in her name than her husband.
The chief justice has Rs.199,000 in his savings account whereas his wife has Rs.255,969.
The couple has a flat in their joint name in Samata Housing Society in Mumbai’s Cuffe Parade.
The chief justice has over Rs.24 lakh in the General Provident Fund account and has also invested a lot of money in shares and mutual funds.
He has two insurance policies – of Rs.50,000 and Rs.400,000.
There is no information on whether they own any vehicle.
Last month, the high court in a landmark judgment held that the office of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) comes within the purview of the Right to Information (RTI) Act and that the details of judges’ assets should be revealed under that law.
The Kerala and Madras High Court judges have already declared their assets. The Allahabad High Court has already passed a resolution that its judges would declare their assets.
