Close acquaintance suspected of senior citizen’s murder

By IANS,

New Delhi: Delhi Police suspect the role of a close acquaintance in the killing of a 72-year-old man, who was found murdered in his apartment in north Delhi Wednesday.

The body of Dharampal Jindal, 72, was found inside his apartment on Raj Niwas Marg after one of his neighbours who went to check after his repeated calls were not answered. He then informed police. Jindal’s front teeth were broken and there were several stab wounds on his body.

“The deceased’s house was not ransacked and nothing was missing. There were no signs of forced entry either. The evidence gathered from the house indicates that the assailant had some personal enmity with him and was probably known to him. We are waiting for the the postmortem report to proceed further in the case,” a senior police officer said.

Jindal had recently won a legal battle over some property with his son. His daughter is married and his son stays independently in Anand Vihar in east Delhi. His property is reportedly worth millions of rupees.

“He was living at the place alone since last year when his wife expired. After that his son shifted to Anand Vihar. His daughter and son-in-law live in Haryana,” the officer added.

Police have also reportedly questioned Jindal’s maid.

“We are looking at all possibilities and further investigations in the matter are on,” the officer said.
