Raipur: Police Friday shot dead two Maoist guerrillas, including a woman, in a brief gunfight in a forested pocket in Chhattisgarh.
The gunfight broke out at Gangloor area in Bijapur district, some 450 km south of capital Raipur, when a team of policemen was combing the area.
“Two insurgents were shot dead including a woman in retaliatory firing. One rifle and some explosives were recovered at the gunbattle site,” Avinash Mohanty, superintendent of police Bijapur, told IANS by phone.
Bijapur falls under the vast restive but mineral-rich Bastar region that has witnessed over 1,500 casualties in Maoist violence since 2005.
