Washington: The Indian-American community here Sunday condemned the terror attack on a Pune eatery frequented by foreign nationals and asked the Indian government to speed up the probe.
“We ask the UPA government and the Maharashtra government to investigate the crime, find the perpetrators and take action against them to the fullest allowed by law,” the Non-Resident Indians for Secular and Harmonious India stated Sunday.
Nine people were killed and 57 injured, including foreign nationals, when a bomb ripped through the popular German Bakery Saturday.
The group offered condolences to the families of the dead and prayed for recuperation of the injured.
Condemning the Pune blast, Indian American Republican Council chairman Dino Teppara described it as ” yet another example of the global reach of international terrorism” and asked authorities to find its perpetrators and take action against them.
“An attack at a popular site near a Jewish centre that is frequented by tourists is meant to strike fear, damage India’s growing tourism sector and cause instability and uncertainty,” he said. “We cannot let that happen.”
The US and India are, in fact, winning the war on terrorism, he said.
“We’re decimating terrorist cells that are aiming their attacks at both the United States and India. Instead of creating fear, these attacks will only strengthen our resolve to fight back aggressively and destroy those who seek to use violence against innocent people,” Teppara said.
