A missile fired from a pilotless drone aircraft struck a vehicle travelling through the lawless North Waziristan district that borders Afghanistan.

“Three people died in the attack and their vehicle was completely destroyed,” said the intelligence official who spoke on condition of anonymity, adding that the identities of those killed were not known.

The attack came a day after a suspected US drone fired two missiles at a house in the same district, killing at least seven people and wounding four more.

“All those killed and injured in Sunday’s drone attack were terrorists,” said the intelligence official.

The US intensified drone attacks inside Pakistan after the Dec 30 suicide bombing in the Afghan province of Khost, which left seven employees of the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) dead.

Taliban militants based in North Waziristan are believed to have facilitated the suicide attack.

Pakistan publicly opposes the drone strikes, saying they violate the country’s sovereignty. But analysts believe that Islamabad was covertly helping the CIA in the strikes by providing intelligence about the possible targets.
