Ranchi : The Congress Sunday alleged that the Shibu Soren government in Jharkhand was conniving with the Maoists and the recent abduction of a government official was pre-planned.
“Shibu Soren seems to have tacit understanding with the Maoists. The abduction of Block Development Officer (BDO) Prasant Layak seems to be pre-planned to ensure the release of the jailed Maoists,” Jharkhand Congress president Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu told reporters here.
He said: “The Maoists are running a parallel government in Jharkhand and the state government lacks firmness to deal with the Maoist problem.”
Prasant Layak was abducted Feb 13 and released by the Maoists Friday after the state government agreed to reinvestigate the cases of 14 jailed Maoists. Two of them were released on bail Saturday.
A Congress and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM-P) delegation met Governor M.O.H. Farook over the rising Maoist incidents and the prevailing corruption in the state.
“We apprised the governor about the Maoist problem and the corruption situation in the state. Shibu Soren’s personal secretary M.L. Pal’s houses were raided by the Income Tax department.
“There is a need to hand over all the corruption cases to the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) for probe,” said Babulal Marandi, former chief minister and president of JVM-P.
