New Delhi: Navy man Sanjeev Rajput won the gold in the 50-metre rifle 3-Position event with a new meet record as India took its medals tally to 48, including 23 golds, on the sixth day of the Commonwealth Shooting Championships at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range here Tuesday.
Rajput shot 1272.9 (1172 qualifications, 100.9 final) and broke the meet record of 1260.2 set by Pemmiaha Subbiah in the 1999 edition in New Zealand.
Gagan, who had teamed up with Rajput to win the team gold in the same event, bagged the silver with a score of 1269 (1168 qualification, 101.1 final), while another Indian, Hasan Imran Khan, settled for the bronze with a score of 1259.6 (1161 qualification, 98.6 final).
The second gold of the day came from the 25m center fire pistol team event, where Vijay Kumar teamed up with Mahender Singh to clinch the gold with a score of 1159.
Welshmen Alan Green and Steve Pengelly (1131) got the silver while England’s Michael Gault and Iqbal Ubhi bagged the bronze with a score of 1103.
In the 10m air rifle team competition, Indian girls Priya Aggarwal and Neha Sapte settled for the silver after shooting a total of 782 while Bangladesh girls Akhter Sharmm Ratna and Sadiya Sultana bagged the gold with a score of 790.
Ratna and Sultana also broke the meet record of 789 set by India’s Suma Dixit and Anjali Bhagwat in 1999. England’s Sheree Cox and Sharon Lee got the bronze with a score of 780.
Bangladesh girls also dominated the 10m air rifle individual competition, as Akhter (396) won the gold and Sultana (394) bagged the silver. India’s Priya settled for the bronze with a score of 393.
In the women’s trap competition, India’s Shreyasi Singh shot the silver with a score of 89 and missed the gold by just three points. Northern Ireland’s Kirsty Barr got the gold with a score of 86 while the bronze went to Scotland’s Shona Marshall (86).
