New Delhi: India outplayed Pakistan in the first half of their Hockey World Cup opener and took a 2-0 lead at the Dhyan
Chand National Stadium here Sunday night.
India scored both their goals from penalty corners. Shivendra Singh pounced onto a rebound following Pakistan goal-keeper Salman Akbar’s block of Sandeep Singh’s drag flick for the first goal.
On the stroke of the half time, India successfully won a referral to force a penalty corner. Sandeep this time beat the Pakistani goalkeeper to his left, giving no chance to the defender on the goal-line.
Pakistan had only one penalty corner and their famous drag-flicker Sohail Abbas’ shot hit the cross piece.
