PM announces compensation for Kerala tanker fire victims

Thiruvananthapuram : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Sunday sanctioned Rs.1 lakh to the families of each of the two people killed in a tanker fire accident in Kerala on New Year’s eve.

The prime minister, who was in the city to inaugurate the 97th Indian Science Congress, also announced Rs.50,000 to each seriously injured person. The relief package was made from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.

The accident occurred Thursday when an LPG gas tanker spun out of control after it hit a car and turned over in a blaze of fire on the National Highway 47 at Karunagapally, 85 km from state capital Thiruvananthapuram. Twenty people were injured in the accident.
