New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia is going to launch, first Indian university to do so, a course in Catalan Language that is spoken by about 12 million people in different European countries including Spain and France.
Jamia Millia’s Centre for European and Latin American Studies will start the Certificate of Proficiency Course in Catalan Language from January 14, 2010. This is the first time a course in Catalan Language is being offered by an Indian university. Catalan is an important European language spoken by about 12 million speakers in Spain, France, and Italy. The Course is being offered in collaboration with the Institute Ramon Llull who are providing the faculty and the materials for conducting the course at Jamia.
The course is of 4 months duration with 2 hours sessions every day. It will provide a working knowledge of Catalan Language and introduce the learners to essential aspects of Catalan culture. It is aimed at students and teachers of Romanic languages, business persons, tourism professionals, and researchers of European Studies.
