New Delhi : The paramilitary Assam Rifles will raise 26 additional battalions for deployment along the India-Myanmar border to check infiltration, an official said Friday.
“We have been assured of 26 battalions and a decision will be taken by the year end. We will raise three to four battalions every year and all these battalions will be deployed along the Indo-Myanmar border,” Assam Rifles chief Lt. General K.S. Yadav said here.
“Besides these, we will also be creating infrastructure like roads and helipads,” he said at the force’s Raising Day here.
The Assam Rifles has 46 battalions, of which 15 are deployed along the Indo-Myanmar border.
