Karachi : Six people, suspected to be militants, were killed Friday in a huge explosion that ripped through a house in this commercial capital of Pakistan, police said.
The deafening blast took place at a house located in Balida town area.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (West) Abdul Majeed Dasti told Geo TV that six people were killed and the bodies were trapped under the rubbles of the house that caved in due to the explosion.
Police suspect that those killed were members of a militant group planning terrorist attacks in the country’s financial capital, DPA reported.
“It seems to be a premature explosion that killed six people,” said Karachi police chief Waseem Ahmad.
Two hand grenades, a suicide jacket and a Kalashnikov rifle were found at the blast site.
Television footage showed the house, where the blast took place, had faced extensive damage.
The bomb disposal squad was looking for explosives.
There has been a string of terror strikes, including huge bombings, across Pakistan last year. The Taliban had dramatically stepped up terror assaults after the Pakistani Army took them on in South Waziristan region.
One of the worst attacks took place in Peshawar Oct 28 last year when 117 people were killed in an explosion that ripped through a crowded market.
