Madhya Pradesh says it received 55,000 tonnes less sugar

Bhopal : Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has charged the central government with supplying it less than the allotted quota of sugar for distribution through fair price shops this year.

Reviewing the performance of the food, civil supplies and consumer protection department here Monday, Chouhan said the 55,000-tonne deficit in supply was equal to three months’ quota.

He also charged the mills with not despatching sugar to the state despite the central government issuing the allotment letter after he raised the issue with union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar.

Chouhan directed the food department officials to regularly monitor the arrangements for securing the prescribed quota of essential commodities.
