New Delhi: The announcement of list of Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee office-bearers has resulted in a crisis in the state unit with its senior leaders meeting party general secretary Rahul Gandhi Wednesday to complain against regional imbalance.
Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Bihar later this month as part of membership drive launched by the Youth Congress in preparation for the assembly elections later this year.
The leaders, who included former state Congress chiefs Sadanand Singh and Ram Jatan Sinha, and leader of the Congress in the state assembly Ashok Kumar, besides some legislators, said the list of office-bearers was “socially and geographically lopsided”.
“There is regional and social imbalance in the list,” Mehmood Ali Kaisar, a party legislator and secretary of All India Congress Committee, told IANS. He added that the Bihar leaders met Rahul Gandhi Wednesday morning.
Kaisar said that senior leaders in the party had not been given their due.
Party leaders also said that Bihar Congress unit chief Anil Sharma should be replaced to end groupism in the party. They said Sharma was a political lightweight and had not won an assembly election. Some of the leaders suggested forming a coordination committee in the state to fight the elections effectively.
The list was announced last week.
