Fog returns to capital, several flights delayed

New Delhi : Dense fog blanketed the national capital Thursday, affecting over 11 flights at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here, officials said.

After a few clear days, fog returned to the capital with visibility dropping to 500 metres.

“Eleven dmoestic flights have been delayed so far. However, the situation is not very bad,” an airport official told IANS.

A minimum of 150 metres is required for a flight to take off or land.

The fog is likely to continue Friday.

“The fog will be there till forenoon tomorrow (Friday),” an India Meteorological Department official said.

The mercury continued to oscillate between a maximum of 16.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 8 degrees Celsius Thursday.

“The maximum temperature at 16.2 degrees Celsius was 5 degrees below the average at this time of the year whereas the minimum temperature at 8 degrees Celsius was one degree above the average,” the met official added.
