Two killed in Kashmir gunfight

Srinagar : Two separatist guerrillas were killed and three security personnel were injured in a gunfight that ended Thursday morning in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district, police said.

The slain guerrillas belong to the Hizbul Mujahideen, a police officer said. An earlier report mistakenly said that all five people were killed.

The fighting broke out Wednesday evening when security forces surrounded a house in Tangmarg Watu village, about 70 km from the summer capital Srinagar.

When the rebels were asked to surrender, they opened fire at the troops. One Rashtriya Rifles soldier and two policemen were injured in the firing, the officer said.
