German football fans not interested in buying World Cup tickets

By IRNA,

Berlin : German football fans are showing only little interest in buying tickets for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa amid concerns over the state of domestic security in the African country, the Munich-based daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported Thursday.

It quoted the German Football Federation (DFB) as saying that it has only had around 1,000 orders for its allocation of 21,000 tickets for the three group matches versus Australia, Ghana and Serbia.

The DFB refused to comment on the report.

It was also unclear as to when the DFB would announce the numbers of actual sold tickets.

In the first of the five ticket sales phases, there were some 25,000 orders from Germany for all the 64 games in the tournament, due to be staged from June 11 to July 11.

The low demand in Germany for World Cup tickets is also linked to the high cost of travel to South Africa and the ongoing German economic crisis.
