Newspaper’s company secretary gets bail in bribe case

New Delhi: A city court Saturday granted bail to a leading vernacular daily’s company secretary, a co-accused with suspended Company Law Board (CLB) member R. Vasudevan in a graft case.

Additional Sessions Judge O.P. Saini granted bail to Manoj Kumar Banthia on furnishing a personal bond of Rs.50,000 and two sureties of the like amount.

The court also directed Banthia not to leave the country without its permission and asked him to surrender his passport.

Vasudevan was granted bail Thursday.

CBI arrested Banthia and Vasudevan Nov 23 last year when Banthia was coming out of the Delhi residence of the CLB member after allegedly paying him Rs.7 lakh (Rs.700,000) bribe to get a favourable order in a matter related to the daily.

A total of Rs.1.4 crore (Rs.10.4 million) in cash was recovered during searches at Vasudevan’s residences and bank lockers.
