Chandigarh : A 55-year-old widow was found brutally murdered in her rented accommodation here Sunday evening, police said.
According to police, the woman, identified as Shashi Sharma, lived alone in the top floor of the house in Sector 42. Her throat was slit and her body was found in a pool of blood on the bed.
Sharma was running a cement store here in Sector 40.
“After she did not respond to repeated phone calls, one of her servants came to her house. He found the door locked from outside and called Sharma’s relatives. They then called the police,” said a police official.
“From preliminary investigations, it seems to be the work of some robbers. We found things scattered here and there in the house. We are taking the help of sniffer dogs and forensic experts to gather vital clues,” S.S. Srivastava, senior superintendent of police, Chandigarh, told reporters.
Police have registered a case against unknown miscreants.
