“There will be fog tomorrow (Tuesday) and it will remain till noon. Foggy conditions will persist for the next few days. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 18 degrees Celsius and the minimum is expected to be around 8 degrees Celsius,” an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The minimum temperature Monday was recorded at 8.2 degrees Celsius, one degree above the average for this time of the season while the maximum temperature was recorded at 18.9 degree Celsius, two degree below the season’s average.

Train services were disrupted due to thick fog in the neighbouring regions of the national capital. According to a Northern Railway spokesperson: “As many as 34 trains were rescheduled, 45 were delayed by more than three hours, and 33 were cancelled or partially cancelled.”

“Partially cancelled means that the services on a part of the route were cancelled,” the spokesman explained.

But operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport remained unaffected by the fog.

“There was shallow fog in the morning, but it did not pose any problem in the flight operations since runway visibility remained over 1,500 metres for the main runway while it was over 1,200 metres for the new runway,” an airport official said.

However, flights to Srinagar, Amritsar and Chandigarh were delayed due to fog in those cities.

Four persons were also injured in an accident in north Delhi area Monday morning when a delivery van rammed into a scooter due to poor visibility as a result of fog.
