Indians in terror-hit Kabul safe: government

By IANS,

New Delhi: India Monday asked its nationals in Afghanistan to restrict their movement in the wake of a wave of Taliban attacks in Kabul and said all its citizens there were safe.

“All Indian nationals are safe. We have been closely in touch with the Indian embassy in Kabul,” external affairs ministry spokesperson Vishnu Prakash told reporters here.

“The Indian embassy has asked Indians to restrict their movement and follow security instructions,” the spokesperson said.

The instructions come as fighting raged across central Kabul Monday after an unknown number of militants occupied a building near the presidential palace and started firing on other government facilities.

At least four Taliban bombers and a police officer were killed and 36 people were wounded in the attacks, which began during morning rush hour when militants fired at the southern gate of the palace and at the finance and justice ministries from the city centre.
