Roy, who had superseded several other officers, was removed from the state’s top police post by the Bombay High Court that had criticised the state government for “non-application of mind” in his appointment.

Roy – who was first appointed to the coveted post in February 2008 before his removal last year – was not available for comment as he had proceeded on short leave after the announcement in the morning.

He was made acting DGP after the retirement of S.S. Virk in October last year. Roy is expected to resume office Monday, a day before the Republic Day celebrations.
