Fog, icy winds continue to grip Uttar Pradesh

By IANS,

Lucknow : Dense fog and icy winds continued to grip parts of Uttar Pradesh Saturday, throwing normal life out of gear.

According to the met department here, biting cold conditions were due to westerly winds passing through the state from Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand.

“The western disturbance which is responsible for snowfall and rains in hill regions is behind the severe cold conditions. While the snow made the air chilly, rains brought moisture that was condensed into thick fog, barring penetration of sun rays in parts of Uttar Pradesh,” state Met Director J.P. Gupta told reporters.

“The minimum temperature would rise only after the western disturbance starts moving away. Such conditions are likely to prevail at least for the next one or two days,” he added.

Fog disrupted the movement of a number of trains, including Lucknow Mail, Padmavat Express, Triveni Express, Janta Express and Ganga Gomti Express as their arrival at the Charbagh railway station here was delayed by up to 13 hours.

Dense fog also affected the movement of vehicles at various places in the city where the traffic moved at a snail’s pace.

The minimum temperature in Lucknow was 5 degrees Celsius Saturday. Lucknow remained the coldest across the state Friday with a minimum temperature of 3.2 degrees Celsius.
