New Delhi : A day after the government was left red-faced thanks to an ad faux pas by the women and child development ministry featuring a former Pakistan Air Force chief’s photo, top officials at the ministry huddled for a meeting early Monday, even as a probe into the matter was underway, an official at the ministry said.
“There was a meeting of top officials of the ministry this morning on the advertisement. The minister was however not present in the meeting,” an official of the women and child development ministry said.
According to the official, the probe into the ad faux pas was handled by the additional secretary of the ministry Sudhir Kumar.
“The internal inquiry is being led by Sudhir Kumar. Since tomorrow (Tuesday) is an official holiday, the report should be submitted by the end of this week,” the official told IANS.
A half-page advertisement on the National Girl Child Day was issued by the women and child development ministry and published in a national daily Sunday. However along with cricketing icons Kapil Dev and Virender Sehwag and Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan, it also carried a photograph of former Pakistan Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Ahmed, who was air chief 2006-09.
The incident quickly prompted the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to issue an apology for the lapse and ordering an internal inquiry. It also earned the ire of the opposition.
