A division Bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Manmohan also asked the government to make clear the mechanism adopted to regulate the radioactive material in hospitals’ waste by Aug 11.

The court was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a direction for installation of radiation scanners in all scrap markets here following the Mayapuri scrap market radiation exposure incident in April that killed one person.

Petitioner Pritika Kumar has sought a direction from the court to the city government to seal the Mayapuri scrap market till it was decontaminated.

The lawyer sought a direction to the government to put up warning signboards in the market.

Seeking a direction to the central government, the petitioner said a survey should be conducted in all scrap markets in Delhi and radiation scanners be installed.
