New Delhi: A committee headed by Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh will monitor all activities relating to waste disposal, decontamination and remediation at the Bhopal gas tragedy site, officials said Wednesday.
The 16-member oversight committee will ensure that while remedial action is taken, the requisite technical, financial, logistic and other support is available to the state government and its authorities at all times.
While the primary responsibility for waste disposal, decontamination and remediation will be that of the state government, the oversight committee will ensure the work is done.
Ramesh will also visit the Bhopal gas tragedy site at Pithampur July 11 to take stock of the work.
The Central Pollution Control Board under the ministry is coordinating the decontamination work.
