Ma’dani had to spend 10 years of his life as an under-trial in prison. He was released by the judiciary finding him innocent after his jail term. The move to imprison him again by creating similar situations will only lead to the formation of strong mistrust and anger in a particular section towards the judicial, police and intelligence systems. This, as a whole, will lead to the erosion of the moral strength of our democratic set-up.

Sending a handicapped political leader to the prison of another state in the name of mysterious and doubtful testimonies can never be justified. Such immoral measures of the government can result in creating more opportunities for terrorism. So, all human rights and cultural activists should come forward to defend the move to arrest Ma’dani again. The problem of Ma’dani is not of any political party or a section of people, the statement added.

Js PK Shamsudheen, Dr S Balaraman, BRP Bhasker, Dr Neelalohithadasan Nadar, Prof KM Bahaudheen, Gro Vasu, O Abdurahman, CR Neelakandan, Civic Chandran, Adv PA Pouran, J Devika, Laha Gopalan, KK Kochu and Vayalar Gopkumar also signed the statement.

Abdunnasir Ma’dani has been accused of having involvement in the Bengaluru blast case. He is the 31st accused in the case. The Bengaluru court had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against him which was extended more than once. The warrant is valid till July 20th. Ma’dani had submitted an anticipatory bail plea in the Bengaluru court but was rejected. He has again submitted a plea in the Karnataka High Court.
