Patna: In a bid to take lead in the pre-poll race among political parties to win Muslims heart, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) of Lalu Prasad Yadav yesterday promised state Muslims special quota in job if it came to power after October-November Assembly elections.
Former Union Minister and RJD general secretary MAA Fatimi told media the party would implement recommendations of Ranganath Mishra Commission and Sachar Committee in the state if his party came to power. Against the 16% population of Muslims in the state, the community has just 7.75% share in government jobs, which has further come down during five years, he said while making it a point for immediate job quota for Muslims in the state.
Mishra Commission has recommended 15% reservation for minorities – 10% of which exclusively for the largest minority community.
Fatimi asked Muslims not to vote for Congress as this will just help the JD(U)-BJP combine in the state.
With an aim to garner Muslim votes, the Congress appointed Mahboob Ali Qaiser, state MLA, as state party president.
The public overtures of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of JD(U) over the ad showing him holding hand of Gujarat CM Narendra Modi were also seen as move to appease Muslims.
