Lucknow : A court in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district Thursday awarded death penalty to a woman and her paramour for killing seven people in 2008 for property, police said.
The Amroha district court awarded death penalty to Shabnam and Saleem, a day after it held them guilty of the killings that took place in the Bawankheri village of the district in 2008.
“Shabnam had killed seven members of her family, including her parents, in assistance with her paramour Saleem on April 14, 2008. The crime was committed for property,” police Inspector Jawahar Lal Thursday told reporters in Amroha, some 300 km from Lucknow.
While carrying out their investigations, police tried to gather information against the assailants from Shabnam, who was the only survivor when her family was murdered.
“During investigations, police gathered evidence against Shabnam, who during the course of interrogation confessed to the crime and admitted it was executed in assistance with Saleem,” said Lal.
Police arrested the two April 19, 2008.
According to police, the two administered sedatives to the family members and then hacked them to death.
