Eight injured in Trinamool-CPI-M clash

By IANS,

Kolkata: At least eight people were injured when activists of the Trinamool Congress and the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) clashed in West Bengal’s Bankura district Saturday, police said.

The activists randomly hurled bombs at Balsi village near Patrasayar. The injured were rushed to a local hospital.

“Eight CPI-M supporters were arrested in this connection. A large contingent of police has been sent to the area. The situation is now under control,” Bankura Superintendent of Police Pranav Kumar said.

A senior police officer said: “The Balsi village and its adjacent areas were earlier dominated by the CPI-M but in the recent polls the CPI-M lost its control over the areas. Today (Saturday) a few CPI-M supporters raided the village and asked the villagers to join their party.”

“The Trinamool Congress supporters attacked the CPI-M supporters who retaliated with bombs and lathis (sticks),” said the police officer.
