Brussels : The European Union Tuesday condoled with the families of the victims of Monday’s train accident in West Bengal’s Birbhum district in which 63 people were killed and over 150 injured.
“Once again West Bengal is the theatre of a railway tragedy. I send my condolences to the families of the victims, and to the Indian state,” the President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek said in a statement.
“I mourn for the sad loss of these innocent people,” Buzek was quoted as saying by EuAsiaNews.
“I wish a speedy recovery to the numerous injured people who were caught up in this catastrophe and I thank the rescue teams for their untiring work,” the statement said.
The ghastly accident took place early Monday morning, when the engine of the Uttar Banga Express ploughed through three coaches of the stationary Vananchal Express at the small Sainthia railway station.
