New Delhi: The Union Government today banned emigration clearance for jobs in Libya citing job safety reasons for Indian workers there. The ban will be implemented from today. However, cases attested up to 30th June 2010 by the Embassy of India, Tripoli (Libya), will be cleared.
“Following non-payment of salary and non conforming to contract conditions by Libyan companies/agents to Indian workers it has been decided by the Protector General of Emigrants/Registering Authority that the Protectors of Emigrants will clear emigration cases only in respect of the cases attested up to 30-06-2010 by the Embassy of India, Tripoli (Libya), following which there will be no further emigration clearance granted to any worker, including nurses, for employment in Libya until further orders,” says the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, New Delhi in a statement today.
