Kolkata : Maoists killed a man in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district, charging him with being a police informer, an officer said.
According to police, local people noticed a body lying on the road near Gar-Salboni in Jhargram in the district and informed the police. The body was recovered later but is yet to be identified.
“The body has been recovered. The victim was shot dead by the Maoists. But we are yet to identify the victim. Maoists posters claiming responsibility for the crime were found near the spot. The posters state that he was given the capital punishment for acting as police informer,” Additional Superintendent of Police (Operations) Mukesh Kumar said.
Maoists are active in three western districts – West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia – of West Bengal.
