Srinagar: An uneasy calm prevails in the Kashmir Valley, after a day’s strike, life returned to normal in Kashmir Valley today with shoppers flocking the markets and schools and businesses reopening as authorities lifted restrictions imposed on movement of people.
Schools, banks and business establishments have reopened after days of curfew, restrictions and shutdowns; Kashmir Valley is abuzz with normal life on Tuesday as the Hurriyat (G) called for the resumption of normal activities on the day in the view of Shab-e-Baraat (Muslim Holy Night).
People began the day early morning with the Valley witnessing a high level of activity. There are no reports of any untoward incident from anywhere till this report was being filed.
The resumption of normal life today is part of the protest calendar announced by the Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, that call sent shoppers flooding into the streets to stockpile supplies ahead of a general strike set for Monday and more protests in coming days.
There are traffic snarls due to the heavy rush of people.
Mushtaq Ahmad, a local told Agence India Press that, I am happy that today is open; at least I can buy essential things for my home, as my mother is suffering with Asthma and I was worried about her as she was having last Inhaler at home.
After July 17 and 25, this is for the third time in nearly a month that people resumed normal life in the Valley. The separatists had given calls for strikes and protests during the past one month against the alleged killing of civilians by security forces.
