New Delhi : A 25-year-old medical student who allegedly mowed down four men in south Delhi early Monday was arrested from Delhi airport while trying to leave the country, police said Tuesday.
Shahid Khan, who is pursuing MBBS from Ukraine, was arrested from the Indira Gandhi International Airport while he was about to take a flight out of the country.
“We arrested him at 1.30 p.m. Tuesday. He was taking a transit flight (KC 908) from Delhi to Almaty (a city in Kazakhstan),” Lodhi Colony Station House Officer Rajinder Singh told IANS.
Four labourers were killed and four sustained serious injuries when the Honda City car, driven by Khan, ran over them near the Safdarjung flyover early Monday. The men were working with the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) on a road improvement project.
Three of the four injured, Lallan, Man Shekhar and Shailesh Yadav, were admitted to Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre, All India Institute of Medical Sciences. The fourth injured, Pinky, was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital.
“Out of the three injured, Lallan and Man Shekhar have been discharged. They had minor bone injuries,” Nirmala Thakur, media co-ordinator of the trauma centre, told IANS.
According to police, Shahid, who hails from Alwar in Rajasthan, was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. He fled after the incident.
Khan, along with his two friends Shahzad (18) and Alam Khan (23), was returning from a party in Mehrauli when the accident took place.
