Thiruvananthapuram: The Forum for Social Action based in Thiruvananthapuram organized a consultation meeting of Muslim organisations in the matter of the Waqf Enquiry Commission report on July 23. About 50 leaders representing different Muslim organizations participated in the meeting.
The meeting decided to take a strong campaign among the people and mahalls of Kerala to create awareness of the reality in the wake of controversies and allegations surrounding the Waqf Board following the Waqf Enquiry Commission report. Three regional conventions of the members of the mahalls in the estate would be organized. The organizations unanimously expressed their solidarity to take up the issue in a united and democratic manner so as to prevent any effort from any corner to tarnish and belittle the community. Kutty Ahmed Kutty, MLA and chairman of the FSA, PM Pareethu Bava Khan, secretary and general convener of the FSA, Kadakkal Abdul Azeez Moulvi and Abbas Sait were entrusted by the participants to take further initiatives to implement the decisions.
Kutty Ahmed Kutty presided over the meeting. PM Pareethu Bava Khan introduced the topics of discussion and welcomed the gathering. K Ummer, MLA, delivered the key-note address. Adv TK Saidalikkutty, former chairman and member of the Waqf Board, made a detailed presentation on the contents of the Enquiry Commission report focusing on all areas.
The meeting expressed its deep concern over the hidden agenda behind the negative propaganda related to the Waqf Board. It opined that the Enquiry Commission report was prepared based on ‘non-existent evidences with distortion of truth and stretched facts’. Preconceived notion and fabricated assumptions against the Waqf Board are protruding throughout the report. It condemned the Kerala government decision not to discuss the report in the Assembly despite repeated demands from the Opposition. The participants expressed their amazement at the false and scandalous propaganda through media against the Waqf Board and its CEO.
The meeting was organized to shed light on the details of all matters and findings incorporated in the report of the Waqf Enquiry Commission chaired by Js MA Nizar which looked into various complaints raised against the Board. The report was placed in the state Assembly last week. The report points out several problems and disorders with the functioning of the Waqf Board such as problems regarding appointments. The report also makes certain recommendations for the smooth functioning of the Board such as opening offices in the district level. Presently the Board has only zonal offices.
