West Bengal civic polls: Mamata sweeps Kolkata, leads state

Kolkata: Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee is leading in the West Bengal civic bodies polls. Her party has swept the Kolkata Municipal Corporation with 97 seats leaving ruling Left Front much behind at 33. Counting of votes for 81 civic bodies in the state began this morning. Elections were held on May 30.

According to available results/trends, out of 141 wards in Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Trinamool Congress has 97 with the gain of 54 seats. The Left Front has got 33 seats and lost 29 while Congress has got 7 and BJP 3.

However, the trends from other civic bodies are showing tough fight between Trinamool and Left.

In entire state, Left Front has got 23 seats and lost 31 while Trinamool has got 29 seats with the gain of 18 seats. Congress is at No 3 with 9 seats. The party has also lost 7 seats.
