Chouhan visited project sites in south Delhi and warned the companies that delay in installation of street lights and use of poor quality material may be referred to the Central Vigilance Commissioner.

“During the inspection, it was found that some companies are not working properly. Streets lights have not been installed at some places while some of them were not working,” a PWD official said.

Two committees have been formed to inspect the works, he added.

Chouhan directed Delhi Principal Secretary K.K. Sharma to impose “heavy penalty” on companies delaying work and stop their payment.

The erring companies may also be blacklisted, he added.

International standard street lights are being installed on 424 km of roads ahead of the Games due here in October. The cost of the project is Rs.198 crore.

The deadline for completion of the project is end of June.
