According to IRNA, in the prelude to the resolution, reference is made to the articles of the 4th Geneva Convention ratified in the year 1949 in which the civilians are to be protected from military operations even at times of wars. In another article of the same convention the relief personnel and those carrying humanitarian aides are especially singled out as groups to be protected and remained safe from military attacks.

The Human Rights Council has in particular expressed deep regret over the fate of the killed members of the peace group that were trying to prevent further aggravation of the oppressed Gaza Strip residents, stressing that the international community should make sure that regular frequenting of both people and food to the occupied strip should be guaranteed and to assist the besieged Palestinians there immediately.

In executive section of the resolution the barbarian invasion of the Zionists against the ships of the Peace Flotilla that caused dozens of innocent activists’ precious lives and injured lots more is seriously condemned and Israel is urged to compensate for the criminal act.

The occupier regime of the Holy Qods is seriously ordered in the resolution to cooperate with the International Red Cross Committee in informing the bereaved families of its inhumane attack and the entire activists that it had illegally arrested, and to release immediately their boats and ships, creating no obstacle in the way of their delivering their contributions to Gaza residents.

The resolution has meanwhile commissioned the Head of the UN Human Rights Council to dispatch an independent fact finding team to survey the dimensions of the breaching of the human rights in the region and to report its findings at the next session of the council.

The resolution that was initiated by the Islamic and Arab countries and presented to the UN Human Rights Council was ratified with 32 positive, nine abstained, and only three negative votes, cast by the United States, Italy and the Netherlands.

The US ambassador, as the main supporter of the Zionist regime, before its presentation gave a strongly worded lecture objecting to the move, arguing that the issuance of a Security Council Communiqué on the move had been quite sufficient!
He then asked the countries’ ambassadors to put to vote the necessity of issuing such a resolution.

The rest of the European countries, including Britain cast abstained votes to the resolution.
