Rs.700,000 fine for power theft

Bangalore : Four stone polishing units in Karnataka have been and fined over Rs.700,000 for stealing electricity.

The units in the north Karnataka district of Gulbarga had tampered the electricity metres to show lesser power consumption, the Karnataka Power Transmission Corp Ltd (KPTCL) said.

The tempering was discovered Wednesday. The units have been together asked to pay a penalty of Rs.753,732, a statement said.

Criminal proceedings will also be launched against the firms, located in Ingalgi village in Gulbarga, about 600 km from here.
