Chandigarh : Residents of Chandigarh now have to register their dogs with the municipal corporation and will be allowed to keep a maximum of two, the union territory administration said Monday.
The administration issued the Chandigarh Registration of Pet Dogs Bye-laws, 2010, according to which all dogs over four months have to be registered.
The registration form should be submitted along with a fees of Rs.200 per dog, two recent photographs of the dog and a copy of vaccination certificate, an official spokesperson said.
However, a blind person keeping a dog and using it solely for his guidance is exempted from the registration fee, the spokesperson added.
A family may keep up to a maximum of two dogs and cannot take them to public places or gardens, the spokesperson said.
According to the bye-laws, any registered dog, found without its owner, will be seized.
If an owner of the dog violates any of the conditions three times in a year, the registration shall be cancelled, the spokesperson added.
