Chennai : With the PMK’s high level meeting slated for Tuesday here, a group of party leaders met DMK leader and Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at his residence Monday to discuss the alliance modalities.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Karunanidhi said: “They came and discussed about alliance between DMK and PMK in the future.”
The DMK May 30 decided to ally with the PMK but expressed inability to offer it a Rajya Sabha seat this time, dashing hopes of PMK leader and former central health minister Anbumani Ramadoss’s re-election.
The DMK’s high-level action committee decided to offer a Rajya Sabha seat to the PMK only after 2011 assembly elections.
Subsequently leaders of the PMK met Karunanidhi and said their party leader S. Ramadoss would decide on the aligning with the DMK.
“The PMK delegation told me that a meeting with their leader Ramadoss will be facilitated if need be,” Karunanidhi added.
He also dismissed the speculation that the PMK had wanted an assurance from the DMK on the number of seats it would get in the ensuring assembly elections.
During the Lok Sabha elections, Ramadoss conducted a ballot to judge the party’s mood before aligning with the AIADMK. It will have to be seen whether such an exercise will be repeated before aligning with the DMK.
