Raipur : Three Maoist rebels were arrested Monday from Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district and two bombs recovered from their possession, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, the police team along with the Border Security Force (BSF) surrounded a squad of Maoists in Traoki village and arrested three men in Maoist uniform.
Some other Maoist rebels opened fire on the police team and slipped into the nearby forest, officials at the police headquarters here told IANS.
Police seized two tiffin bombs, each weighing 10 kg, from the three arrested rebels.
The Kanker district is part of the 40,000 sq km Maoist stronghold Bastar region along with Bijapur, Bastar, Dantewada and Narayanpur districts.
The arrests were made in the area where over 150 people belonging to 35 families migrated from their ancestral forest village last week after Maoists branded them police informers and threatened to kill them.
According to police, in the past two months the state has reported 28 incidents of Maoists violence that include the massacre of 76 security personnel April 6 and killing of over 30 special police officers (SPOs) and civilians when a landmine blew up a passenger bus May 17, both in Dantewada district.
