Snow, rain in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla : Temperatures across Himachal Pradesh fell sharply Tuesday following heavy rain in low and mid hills and moderate snowfall in the higher reaches with Arki town recording the highest rainfall of 112 mm in the state, the met office here said.

“High-altitude areas of Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba, Kinnaur and Kullu districts experienced snow during the past 24 hours (since Monday),” Manmohan Singh, director of the meteorological office here, told IANS.

Keylong, the headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti, experienced about 2 cm of snow.

He said most of the tourist resorts like Shimla, Kufri, Narkanda, Kalpa, Kasauli, Chamba, Dalhousie, Manali, Dharamsala and Palampur have been experiencing heavy spells of rain since Monday night.

“Arki town in Solan district recorded 122 mm of rain till this (Tuesday) morning,” he added.

State capital Shimla experienced 66.9 mm rain, while it was 67 mm in Kasauli town, 54.6 mm in Sundernagar town, 38.7 mm in Bhuntar town, 23.8 mm in Kalpa town, 42.4 mm in Mandi town, 13 mm in Palampur town and 4.2 mm in Dharamsala town.

The met department forecast said heavy rainfall shall continue in the state Wednesday.
