20 die in Jharkhand bus accident

Ranchi : Twenty people on their way back from a wedding were killed and more than 30 injured when their bus hit a tree and skidded off the road in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district early Wednesday.

The incident took place near Barwa village in Dhanbad district, about 240 km from here.

“Twenty people died and more than 30 were injured when a bus carrying more than 50 people, who were returning after attending a marriage, hit a roadside tree and skidded off the road,” Suman Gupta, superintendent of police Dhanbad, told IANS.

The injured have been admitted to the Patliputra Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), Dhanbad. The condition of 13 people is said to be serious, the official added.

According to one of the injured, the driver had nodded off to sleep. They were returning to Asansol from Dhanbad.
